Contract Victory at Salisbury University

MCEA members at Salisbury University scored huge in their fight for a fair, updated contract. On September 8, 2020, MCEA bargaining unit members, voting unanimously, ratified their new memorandum of understanding (MOU). The MOU took nearly two years to negotiate and finalize—in large part, due to the tenacity of MCEA’s bargaining team, who took the contract to mediation and ultimately requested the intervention of a fact-finder under Maryland’s collective bargaining act.

 

MCEA Convention 2020: the Highlights

Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, MCEA was able to successfully hold its 2020 convention. With the help of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), we held our convention remotely, digitally, and safely. After all, the work of protecting the rights of our membership is too important to let fall by the wayside.

Members of the Fund Our Facilities Coalition urge significant additional education funding and a budget that holistically addresses the needs of communities across Pennsylvania. Members of the Fund Our Facilities Coalition issued the following statement regarding state budget proposal (HB2387) which yesterday passed the PA House and is currently in the PA Senate.

MEDIATION Oct. 29, 2020

Yesterday was our first mediation session with the District.  We elected to use a mediator to facilitate our negotiation sessions following our September 11th joint session because we were not making forward progress on several issues. 

 

PFT Releases Reopening Recommendations

July 14, 2020

This morning, the PFT released its recommendations regarding reopening school buildings. These recommendations are built on months of member feedback, and are developed in conjunction with insight and expertise from scientists and infectious disease experts.

Comments on Natchaug Hospital’s OSHA Citations Over Safety Violations During the Pandemic

State and local union leaders and activists made the following public remarks regarding the federal worksite agency’s months-long investigation at the behavioral health facility:

“Hartford HealthCare (HHC)’s executives should be responsible for ensuring its nurses and health professionals are properly equipped to provide safe patient care,” said AFT Connecticut President John Brady, RN.
