NEA Retired was formed in 1951, and it since has become a powerhouse of activism-working closely with NEA and its mission. NEA-R has representation on NEA’s Board of Directors, on NEA’s Resolutions Committee, and has its own Executive Council.

Congratulations to the 14 UHP members who recently were recognized with a PAWS award, and the 33 members who were part of a team honored with a TEAM award!

Watch now to hear Weingarten discuss the newly released 20-page, science-based “Plan to Safely Reopen America’s Schools and Communities” and why this plan requires more resources.

In response to the world-wide pandemic we are facing, the AFT is providing Grief Counseling at no cost to you. All members, active and retired, and eligible immediate family members will have the opportunity to speak with a licensed, Master’s level counselor if a death occurs as the result of COVID-19. The AFT will pay covered counseling expenses1 for the insured and/or immediate family members. During the time in which the AFT is providing this benefit you have the opportunity to speak with one of our dedicated counselors via video, phone, or text.
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! We know that Hernando teachers are working harder than ever to ensure learning continues during this time of Social Distancing and school closures. Here’s one way you can acknowledge and celebrate our educators:

Florida Education Association is currently conducting a parent survey and poll to get input on how schools should reopen and how distance learning is working. Parents (non-school employees) of public school students are invited to respond.

SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR, NOW WHAT?
Earlier this month Governor Edwards announced that schools would remain closed through the end of the school year. The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) has provided some guidelines for local school districts, but for the most part administrators, teachers, and school employees have had to make it work in an impossible situation.
