Face Masks for BCFPE Union Members

In light of Governor Hogan’s new mandate that everyone will be required to wear face masks starting Saturday April 18, 2020 at 7:00 a.m., BCFPE will be offering 4 FREE face masks for BCFPE Union Members. These masks will be available at the Union Office for curbside pickup at 305 West Chesapeake Ave., Towson, Maryland 21204​.

The masks curbside pickup will be available as follows:

  • Friday, April 17, 2020 from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
     
  • Monday, April 20, 2020 all day, from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

President's Update on COVID-19 Baltimore City Budget Shortfall

RE: CITY’S BUDGET SHORTFALL

On April 9, 2020 the Mayor’s Office assembled a meeting of all the Presidents of the Municipal Unions of Baltimore, along with the Labor Commissioner, Director of Department of Human Resources, and Deputy Budget Director. At that meeting, the Unions were presented with a summary of the City’s budgetary projected shortfalls of $46 million in FY2020 and $103 million in FY2021 “due to the economic impact of COVID-19.” The Unions were then presented with three concessionary options to help the City reduce personnel costs by $11.1 million.

Special Health Insurance Enrollment Periods Extended

The Maryland Health Connection has extended the COVID-19 Special Enrollment Period to June 15 for uninsured Marylanders who need health coverage. In this crisis it is essential that uninsured Marylanders get coverage so that they can get the care they need -- for their safety, and for all of us.

Stimulus Package effects for members

While there is great uncertainty about so much during this time, your union is committed to bring you as much information as possible so working families can make the decisions they need to survive these times. The Stimulus package is large and robust and will affect AFT-Maryland members in a number of ways.

Telecommunicators Week

BCFPE President John Ripley and the Executive Board would like to thank Baltimore County 911 Center personnel for their service everyday and offer special recognition during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Our 911 employees are on the front line of emergencies, serving as that vital link between the vulnerable and other first responders. Thank you for your service!

 

 

Tentative Agreement between BCFPE and County

BCFPE and the Baltimore County Administration have come to a Tentative Agreement (TA) to amend the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which would otherwise expire on June 30, 2020. [You can read the Tentative Agreement here]. The BCFPE Negotiations Committee unanimously recommended the TA to the Executive Board for acceptance. On April 9, 2020 the BCFPE Executive Board unanimously accepted the TA and recommended it for a ratification vote by the membership.
