Members gathered in the union office for the BCFPE general membership meeting. After snacking on meatballs, chicken nuggets, a fruit platter, and cookies, those in attendance got down to the business of the union. The membership meeting was made up of a diverse cross-section of the bargaining unit. President John Ripley noted that reclassification is an important issue for many in the union.
Implementing the Kirwan Commission recommendations is a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to make significant changes to the way Maryland students are educated. These changes will have particular effects on Baltimore City Public School students as well as students from Prince George’s county.
Voting members of the City Union of Baltimore (CUB) overwhelmingly ratified recent contract negotiations. Membership in CUB is broken down by those employed in the Baltimore City Public School System, and those employed by the city of Baltimore. One hundred percent of the members employed by the school system voted to ratify that contract.
