This Lundi Gras we kick off National Public Schools Week!
Join LFT, AFT and the whole Learning First Alliance to celebrate and honor our nation’s public schools.
Nine out of 10 students in the United States attend public schools, so let’s call attention to the great work being done to give our nation’s children every opportunity to grow and succeed.
NYSUT Counts!
Don't forget to complete the U.S. Census
The 2020 U.S. Census officially began on April 1. If you have not yet completed the Census, please take a few minutes to help ensure an accurate 2020 Census count. You can complete the Census online at: my2020census.gov. In the coming weeks, Census employees will follow up with households that have not responded. If you need help completing your 2020 Census questionnaire, call the toll-free number 1-844-330-2020.
Three UHP members were among those from the UConn Health Labor Coalition who tesified before the Appropriations Committee Feb. 18, in a continuing effort to advocate for investment in UConn Health as a public asset.
Going into the holiday season, the shelves were almost bare in PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center's Dove Pantry–an onsite food pantry for hospital employees. In December, OFNHP President Adrienne Enghouse challenged the steward council to do something about it.
OFNHP steward and Ultrasound Tech Shawna Ross stepped up to lead the project, spreading the word about the donation drive throughout the month of January. Through Facebook posts, flyers, break room visits, and social networks, stewards advertised the drive and collected over 500 lbs of food and supplies.
On January 31, volunteers met to package items–making sure each one had a union sticker–before delivering the items to the pantry and organizing the shelves.
It’s time for parents, teachers, school staff, students and the community to come together to talk about how we can fight for and improve our neighborhood public schools!
Join us for a series of community conversations on how state takeover can affect our schools, our families and our children. Let’s talk about what we can do—together— to fight this takeover and develop community-driven solutions for our schools.
Come be a part of our community coalition forums to work for the schools students deserve!
