We recieved a single nominee for each of the four elected officer positions:

  • VP Tier II: Doug Kingsbury (Returning officer)
  • VP Community Outreach: Trisha Faraday (Returning officer)
  • Chief Steward: Jean Morningstar

 

Public Sector Union Bills Introduced

  • HB 6926 requires public employers to provide employee lists to the exclusive bargaining agent at least once per calendar quarter.
  • HB 6930 requires public employers to provide unions access to new employee orientations so the union can inform new hires of their rights, responsibilities and the role of the union and the benefits provided.
  • HB 6935 requires public employers to consult with the union before issuing mass employee communications regarding their rights to either join or support a union.
  • HB 6936 requires public employers to honor the terms of the authorization process for employee payroll deductions for union dues.

Scholarship Success Story

UHP scholarship funds helped member Sabine Donato Dabady return to school for her BSN, and last year she earned her MSN in the adult gerontology nurse practitioner program at Western Connecticut State University.

State tax deduction for your union dues

As a result of legislation championed by NYSUT, the state AFL-CIO and other unions across the state, (signed into law 4/2017), union members in New York can deduct their union dues from the state income taxes if they itemize.

UFAS stands in solidarity with striking faculty at Wright State University

February 7, 2019 — UFAS members voted unanimously today to pass a resolution of support for striking faculty at Wright State University and to donate $200 to their strike fund.

The UFAS Steering Committee had previously sent a letter, dated January 28, 2019, to the president and Board of Trustees at Wright State University calling for a fair contract for striking faculty there.

The membership resolution reads:

The members of United Faculty and Academic Staff (UFAS), American Federation of Teachers Local 223, send solidarity greetings from Madison, Wisconsin. We endorse the letter from the UFAS Steering Committee, dated January 28, 2019, to WSU president Cheryl Schrader and the institution’s Board of Trustees. We fully support your demand for a fair contract that protects faculty working conditions and student learning conditions, which are one and the same.

Nurses & Healthcare Professionals Take Action in Lawsuit to Protect Patients, Voters

Madison, WI--The Wisconsin Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals (WFNHP), a union of professional healthcare workers, joined the American Federation of Teachers– Wisconsin, Service Employees International Union, and the Milwaukee Area Service and Hospitality Workers in the filing of a lawsuit challenging the partisan, sour grapes power grab by Wisconsin legislative Republicans.
