Power of Our Collective Voice

Congratulations to all 2018 DFT/AFT endorsed candidates including Gretchen Whitmer, our next governor; Garlin Gilchrist II, our next lieutenant governor; and Dr. Deborah Hunter-Harvill, who retained a seat on the Detroit Board of Education.

Remember, we must continue to hold elected officials accountable to educators, parents/guardians and students.

Secondly, we thank our members for their continued commitment to mobilize and organize. When we do that, everyone wins.

Observation-Evaluation Tips—Competency5b

COMPETENCY 5— Commitment to excellence and to the professional growth of his/her school and peers

5b. Collaboration. Teacher contributes ideas and expertise to further colleagues’ and the school’s growth and incorporates productive insights into his or her own instruction

Seems pretty obvious, right?  It's what we do all day every day… most of the time.  However, sometimes we are so busy catching up, grading, planning, that we forget that we are actually doing it.

Student Debt Clinic-November 27

Dear Colleagues:

Millions of people are struggling to make their student loan payments, and see opportunities pass while paying down their debt. Does this sound like you or someone you know?

There are free federal programs that can may reduce their monthly payments and lead to student loan forgiveness, but these lifeline programs are significantly under-enrolled. In an effort to help our colleagues get access to these programs, AFT Utah is proud to host a Student Debt Clinic which will provide information on how to enroll.
