FROM OCCTA PRESIDENT:
CRMS ARE NOT MANDATORY
February 12, 2018 - Bow, NH
The House failed this past week to finish its scheduled business, due to the snow-day granted by the Speaker on Wednesday. That left one day for work, which simply was not enough, so the backlog of House legislative work will be made up on this Thursday, February 15.
HB 7055 passed the House today. Two weeks ago it was HB 25. Find out who voted for these anti-public education, union busting bills at this link.
We must continue the work to strengthen our union. Both bill calls for all teacher unions beneath 50% dues paying members to be decertified.
The American Federation of Teachers held their Northeast Regional Meeting at the Hilton Newark on February 10 and 11. NTU President John M Abeigon was a speaker along with State Fed President Donna Chiera and AFT President Randi Weingarten.
Among the topics discussed were union building and obstacles to organizing. It was an informative conference that we believe will help make the NTU and AFT stronger.
