Tammany educators approve new contract

(Covington – October 20, 2016) Nearly 200 teachers and school employees met Tuesday night to unanimously approve a new contract between the St. Tammany Federation of Teachers and School Employees and the parish school board.

How to Promote Social Justice

The NYSUT Standing Committee on Civil and Human Rights has charged us to advance the union's efforts to promote equity and social justice. NYSUT’s agenda promotes equal access to society's opportunities, thereby empowering people to have choices and control over their own destiny.

Fair Trade

NYSUT has been encouraging Fair Trade since a 2006 NYSUT RA resolution was passed. The resolution resulted in a statewide education and awareness campaign, encouraging NYSUT members and the schools they work in to purchase Fair Trade products.

Responding to a column in The Advocate, LFT Interim President Larry Carter made it clear that the Federation supports the idea of a year-long residency for new teachers, but has concerns about the plan approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.

BESE okays plan for teacher internships

A plan to reconfigure teacher preparation in Louisiana was unanimously approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education following a close favorable vote by the board’s Teacher Effectiveness Committee.

Baltimore Blast!

The Baltimore Blast has just announced that their home opener on November 11 will be MD State Employee Appreciation Night!  Attached is the flyer with information about how to order tickets.  The tickets to see the championship team are deeply discounted for State employees.  The ticket cost is normally $22 and it will only be $10 for State employees.  Family and friends will receive a $3 discount.  Additionally, the Blast has arranged a pre-game meet and greet with the players.  Go Blast!
