2016 Legislative Issues

The 2016 Maryland State Legislative Session is full of challenges for public employees. Help us move our agenda for working families as we call for:

  • better funding for Baltimore City Public Schools,
  • safe work and learning environments for all state workers, educational professionals, and students,
  • due process rights for Maryland School for the Deaf teachers,
  • eliminating bullying from management in the workplace,
  • and much more!

Mayoral Candidate Surveys

The Baltimore AFL-CIO will decide which candidate will receive Labor's endorsement for Mayor of Baltimore. The unions of the AFT-Maryland, including the Baltimore Teachers Union, the City Union of Baltimore, and other state and county unions, will help make that decision.

Eau Claire support staff mobilize for special ed assistant reclass

Public school support staff perform work that keeps their schools running, work that is essential to the educational mission of Wisconsin’s public school system.  Unfortunately, this work is too often undervalued by school district administrations, who frequently ignore pressing issues that make it hard to recruit and retain the best school staff.  So, after five years of pay freezes, reduced take-home pay, and declining benefits, members of AFT local 4018, the Eau Claire Schools Classified Staff Federation, decided they’d had enough, and made plans to take their issues directly to the school board.
