LFT responds to Gov. Jindal’s PARCC announcement
(Baton Rouge – June 18, 2014) Sticking to a vow he’s made for weeks. Gov. Bobby Jindal today announced that he has signed an executive order withdrawing Louisiana from the test consortium associated with Common Core State Standards. The governor said that his action also removes Louisiana from participation in the Common Core standards.
CUB Recruits New City Employees
Members of the City Union of Baltimore and AFT-Maryland attended an orientation for new city employees June 12th.
CUB used the occasion to inform the new employees of the benefits of CUB membership. Nine employees joined CUB after hearing a presentation by Maxine Holmes, CUB Labor Relations Specialist, and Janelle Edmonds, an AFT-Maryland Organizer.
CUB conducts outreach and recruitment efforts every month to inform employees of the benefits of union membership.

JUNE 10 BOARD MEETING UPDATE
A big thank you to all of our unit members who were able to join us at the June 10 board meeting. The board unanimously approved our contract modifications for 2014-2015. We also want to thank our negotiations team for all of their hard work, time and talent this spring, which led to a successful ratification! We look forward to further improvements in our contract when we reopen our contract in January 2015.
New UW Personnel Systems
In the 2011 state budget, the UW System and UW-Madison were ordered to create new personnel systems for over 40,000 employees currently serving under the state’s civil service system: one system for UW-Madison employees, and another system for employees at all other UW System institutions.

Are you in need of a new wig? Has your horse thrown a shoe? Perhaps your goodwife would like to order a new gown for the ball. Allow any one of the fine 18th century tradesmen and women of the Bennett fourth grade to fill your order! Each one eagerly set up shop, or shall we say “shoppe” on May 15th under the sign of the white tent! It was an exciting day when well over one hundred students greeted an amazing crowd of enthusiastic visitors.
