Notice of Local 6100 Election
The MATC Part-Time Teachers’ Union will hold elections for steward positions at each of the following campuses: Two (2) Truax (seats A & B), as well as seats at each of the following campuses: Commercial, West Campus, Fort Atkinson, and Reedsburg campuses May 7, 2013. Successful candidates will take office and assume the position on May 8, 2013 and will serve for two (2) years.
Additionally, the May 7, 2013 election will seek to fill two mid-term* vacancies. The steward positions at the Truax (seat C) and Watertown campuses will also be posted. Successful candidates will take office and assume the position on May 8, 2013.
*These positions will be for the duration of one (1) year, fulfilling the remainder of the original two (2) year term.
To be eligible to run for office, a person must be an AFT Local 6100 member in good standing for a period of one year prior to the date of the election. If you have any question about your union standing please feel free to contact the union office:

Nomination papers (see website) will be required with the signatures of five (5) members or people eligible to be members of Local 6100. April 30, 2013. Representative Terese Berceau and Senator Tim Cullen sent
to all state legislators a proposal to allow county clerks to appoint county–wide Special Registration Deputies (SRD). They are seeking co-sponsors.
Contact your legislator urging him/her to support this effort to encourage voting rather than trying to suppress it.
The South Central Federation of Labor has announced the availability of four $1,0000 scholarships. The application deadline is June 26, 2013. Eligibility criteria includes:
-- Must be a member or child of a member who belongs to an affiliated union (WPEC is an affiliated union),
-- Must live or work in Dane, Sauk, Iowa, Dodge, Jefferson or Columbia county,
-- Must not have already received a post-secondary degree.
April 25, 2013. The fourth district court of appeals has asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to take up the appeal of Judge Juan Colas' decison regarding Act 10.
As an active member of our local chapter, I was thrilled to get the phone call from the OSEA office telling me I was one of the winners of the Lou Gerber Scholarship Award for 2013 for our zone.
