Unity Celebration of Adult Educators

Come celebrate Bay Area adult education! There will be door prizes, a silent auction, raffle, community speakers, and great entertainment, including music by the La Pena Chorus and Hali Hammer, Berkeley teacher and folksinger. Lunch, drinks and snacks will be available to purchase. Entry is a $5 donation.

Lift the cap on hourly teachers!

There are about 200 part-time adult education teachers in Oakland. We help serve approximately 30,000 adult students. The District recently forced a health care caps on us.

Colleges and universities rely on adjunct faculty (Dec. 10, 2008)

More than half of the undergraduate courses at U.S. public colleges and universities are taught by “contingent” faculty and graduate instructors rather than full-time tenured faculty, resulting in an unstable and financially exploited workforce, according to a report released today by the American Federation of Teachers.
